How VENNOR uses Google Calendar
VENNOR is an AI study platform for Southern African students, built by Vennor (Pty) Ltd. VENNOR's study planner helps students plan study sessions, tasks and deadlines, and it offers an optional two-way synchronisation with Google Calendar. This page explains, in full, what that integration does: the exact permissions we request, what calendar data we access, how we use, store and protect it, and how you can disconnect at any time.
What the integration does
When you connect your Google account to the planner, VENNOR keeps your study plan and your real calendar in step, in both directions:
- Study sessions, tasks and deadlines you create in VENNOR can be added to your Google Calendar, so your study plan shows up wherever you already look at your day.
- Events already on your Google Calendar are shown alongside your study plan inside VENNOR, so the planner schedules study time around your real commitments — lectures, work shifts, appointments.
- When you edit or delete a synced study event in VENNOR, the matching Google Calendar event is updated or removed too.
The integration is strictly opt-in. VENNOR works fully without it; nothing is connected until you press "Connect Google Calendar" in the planner and approve access on Google's own consent screen.
The exact permissions we request
VENNOR requests the narrowest Google Calendar permissions (OAuth scopes) that make the feature work, and nothing more:
-
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.events— "View and edit events on your calendars." Used to read the events on the calendars you selected so they can be displayed in your planner, and to create, update and delete the study events you manage in VENNOR on the calendar you chose. -
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.calendarlist.readonly— "See the list of Google calendars you're subscribed to." Used for one purpose: to show you a picker of your calendars so you can choose which of them appear alongside your study plan. It does not give VENNOR access to the events inside those calendars. -
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.freebusy— "View your availability in your calendars." Used to check when you are free or busy so the planner can schedule study sessions around your existing commitments, without reading the details of those commitments.
How calendar data is used
- Calendar data is used solely to provide the planner feature you see in the app: displaying your schedule next to your study plan and syncing the study events you create.
- Calendar data is never sold.
- Calendar data is never used for advertising of any kind.
- Calendar data is never used to train AI models, and is not fed into VENNOR's AI features.
- Humans at Vennor do not read your calendar data, except with your explicit permission (for example when you ask us to debug a sync issue), where required for security investigations, or where the law requires it.
- Calendar data is not transferred to any third party, other than the infrastructure sub-processors that host the feature itself (our API service and database), as described in our Privacy Policy.
How calendar data is stored and protected
- When you connect, Google issues VENNOR an authorisation token. That token is stored in our database and used only to perform the sync you asked for. All communication with Google's servers happens over encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connections.
- Event details are fetched on demand to render your planner. Synced study events that VENNOR itself created are tracked so they can be updated or removed when you change them.
- When you disconnect the integration, VENNOR deletes its stored Google authorisation tokens, and its access to your calendar ends.
Limited Use disclosure. VENNOR's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How to disconnect
- In VENNOR: open the planner's calendar settings and choose "Disconnect Google Calendar". Your stored tokens are deleted immediately.
- From Google: visit myaccount.google.com/permissions, find VENNOR and remove its access. This immediately revokes every permission you granted.
- You can also email help@vennor.co.za and we will disconnect the integration and delete the associated data for you.
